Biodynamic agriculture

History:

The biodynamic current of agriculture had its beginning at a cycle of eight talks given in the 20’s in Poland by philosopher Rudolf Steiner, who formulated a new philosophy to be applied in medicine, pedagogy and the arts: the anthroposophy, which claims to capture, through experimental methods, supra-sensorial facts or elements of spiritual nature which are beyond matter in the natural environment.

 Rudolf Steiner (1861/1925)

Principles:

According to this current, the health of soil, plants and animals depend on their connection with the forces of a cosmic origin in nature. In order to re-establish the link between matter and energy forms present in the environment, one has to consider the agricultural property as an organism, an indivisible being. Through balancing the various activities (farming, animal breeding, use of natural reserves) one tries to reach the highest possible level of independence of energy and materials outside the farm. This principle is called "self-sustainability", and is used not only in bio-dynamic agriculture but in every other form of Agroecology.
